The Fuzileiros School was created on June 3rd of 1961 to train Fuzileiros, it is located by the Coina River, the location was chosen because of its favorable characteristics for the Fuzileiros Courses, from the training of Fuzileiro Enlisted, Fuzileiro Sergeant and Fuzileiro Officer to the boarding course and the Navy special ops course.
Since its inception, the School has played a major role in the Portuguese Navy`s training, having taken responsibility of also providing the Portuguese Navy Boot camp to all citizens who join. It is the only Portuguese Navy training facility in which its given specific automobile training and at the same time the only Navy facility able to emit driving certificates. While serving in the Navy you can choose to, through the Fuzileiros School, obtain your driver`s license, or increase your technical-professional skills in the all terrain driving course and automobile mechanics course.
In the Fuzileiros School you can also increase your professional skills, after boot camp, in order to enhance your work opportunities for life after the Navy.
The Fuzileiros School has also available a vast range of weapons and explosives courses.
In the training given at the Fuzileiros School are also included countless First Aid Courses (including Combat First Aid), waterborne vehicles driving courses and Orientation Courses.
Leadership is a part of the Naval Culture of Navy Sailors and of the Fuzileiros in particular.
From past lessons learned the Fuzileiros School created a publicly renown, Centre of Reference in Leadership, where it teaches a vast range of courses and stages of different levels, allowing for one to enhance its abilities in leadership which in turn facilitates the entry in the job market.
The Fuzileiros School also contributes to the preparation of soldiers destined for foreign positions with specific areas of training. And also due to its favorable conditions to the preparation, training and evaluation of Fuzileiros forces and Units.
The knowledge acquired throughout its long years has also led to several requests by associations and State Entities to go to the Fuzileiro School to promote and grow their group spirit.Today as before, the Fuzileiros School continues to train the Portuguese Navy Special Forces: The Fuzileiros.
