In 1918 the Minister of the Navy, Commander José Carlos da Maia had the Cornet replaced with Bugles and later ordered the establishment of groups of performers with several bugle tons instead of just one.
Nowadays the Fanfarra is in the direct dependency of the Fuzileiros Battalion nº1, maintaining a strong presence in the various ceremonies and events, both of military and civilian nature.
The Fanfarra da Armada (Navy`s Fanfare) as a very busy schedule of activities all throughout the country, with little time to rest, spending most time either performing, practicing or tuning and caring for the instruments.
It represents a long history of traditions, with an impressive capacity for innovation and talent, keeping up with the times but at the same time maintaining the respect for the oldest of traditions.
“We are not all Fuzileiros, because other can also join, but whitin the Navy we choose to serve in the Fanfarra da Armada, both because we like music and because we like to keep alive ancient naval traditions.
